While the Zippo Hand warmer provides one of the longest average run times when compared to many other top hand warmers, there's quite a lot of concerns as well.
First, it's a tad scary to realize you're basically carrying a small canister of lighter fluid in your hunting pack. For any hunter, adding an additional bottle of liquid, whether it be doe urine or a thermos of coffee always leads to potential disaster. Not to mention the potent smell of lighter fluid spilling all over your gear is not fun to imagine.
Additionally, as many already know, the catalytic heating process requires the individual to fill the fuel tank, replace the burner, and then use a lighter. It's a bit of a process to be honest, and not something you want to deal with early in the morning or out in the field.
Lastly, unlike many of the electronic hand warmers mentioned, the Zippo hand warmer contains a flameless combustion - meaning it cannot be stopped or turned off. Basically, you'll have to accurately measure how much fluid you'll need based on your time in the field and how much you'll use the item.
What we like: Durable
What we dislike: Additional Work to Maintain, Can't Switch Off, Messy, Lighter Fluid Required

The Hot SnapZ hand warmer contains some of the most interesting pieces of technology in this review. Even though it resembles the traditional, disposable Hot Hands hand warmers, this product is a step beyond that - providing you with a reusable source of heat in an easy to use form.
If you're looking for something very simple and easy to use the Hot Snapz hand warmer might be perfect for you. To activate the heat source, click the internal activation device. Once the heat has been depleted, place the item in boiling water for close to 20 minutes to recharge. Pretty cool!
Now, while this technology is relatively easy to use and hard to mess up, it does come at a cost. The average run time for this product is only about an hour or so. for some, this might be perfect, but if you're gonna be up in the stand for extended periods of time in harsh weather you might want to find something a little more robust!
What we like: Price, Great Technology, Quick To Activate, Reusable
What we dislike: Low Heat Time, Limited Options For Use

Electric Hand Warmer
Electric hand warmers are probably the most popular type of hand warmer on the market. These require a charge that's most likely powered by a lithium-ion battery. Some characteristics include inconsistent heat output in extreme cold conditions and are more prone to moisture and impact damage out in the field. However, many manufactures have improved technology to counter such things, while also providing charging support for items such as phones, GPSs, etc.
Catalytic Hand Warmer
Catalytic hand warmers are powered by lighter fluid, and require a flame to start the production of flameless combustion. While they produce some of the most consistent heat, they are very messy and require attention when refilling and removing excess lighter fluid.
Disposable Hand Warmer
Disposable hand warmers are the easiest to use types of hands warmers and are relatively cheap. While these are very simple, they provide minimal support for hunters - especially when temperatures really start to fall. Almost all disposable hand warmers produce heat through a chemical reaction that oxidizes iron powder. The most popular type of disposable hand warmer is the hothands hand warmers.
For our blog about the Best Deer Hunting States we have that too!
I occasionally use the disposable hardwarmers. We don’t always need them when hunting here in SW MO, as it usually isn’t terribly cold if you’re wearing gloves. I’d certainly consider getting a different type, for those rare cold hunting mornings, though. Thanks for this article!
I use the Zippo hand warmers and love them!
